Rosemarys Vineyard Pinot Noir, Talley Vineyards
Note:
Darker colour that the estate Pinot, but not a densely extracted sort of colour by any means. Pinot-ey loveliness. Not quite dark cherry – because it has more lift there is some blood orange, and the fruit is overlaid by oyster-shell and earthy notes .On the palate the fruit has that indefinable (but Ill try) animal-mineral-vegetable complexity that swirls around your palate one minute its bright pure fruit, the next it hints at liquorice or undergrowth, the next its earthy and saline – and finally there is a hint of dark chocolate or mocha. But it eludes definition. Texturally, I dont think this is particularly DRC to be honest. This is more the (ethereal) weight of a young Cathiard. Flat out gorgeous. You are going to love it even if you drink it now, but if you are patient and give it the decade it deserves, this will be Grand Vin. And if the evolution of the 2014 is anything to go by (and I am sure it is) this will get that Soy / umami savouriness that I love, with age. (Its provisionally a better vintage than my 2014). This stuff is still really cheap with Burgundy prices where they are there are now Bourgogne Rouges that cost more than this.
