Ayler Kupp Riesling Spatlese, Fass 7, Peter Lauer
Note:
Two of the numerous parcels that characteristically inform Lauers Fass 7 are some 60 years old, and in 2018 he elected to bottle their fruits separately, leaving this Fass 7 dominated by 20- to 30-year-old vines. (Following a recently established Lauer convention, this wine carries its usual A.P. #7 while the old vines bottling bears A.P. #71.) Very ripe peach and passion fruit inform a heady nose. They are then unexpectedly joined by a tingling jolt of citricity to deliver a bright, succulently fruity palate impression. The feel is polished and lightly glossy. The vibrantly penetrating, long-lasting finish is correspondingly refreshing despite its prominent sweetness. With time, I suspect that this lusciously fruity, already irresistible libation will reveal further facets.
