From the Grosses Gewächs plot and based on the free-run must of the Grosses Gewachs, the 2018 Kupp Spätlese Fass 23 (Versteigerung) is, so to say, the aperitif of the Grosses Gewachs. It opens with a super clear and precise, bright and flinty-scented bouquet. Salty-piquant and tightly woven, this is a lush and precise, piquant and salty Spätlese with remarkable finesse and sharp but ripe acidity. Very stimulating and straightforward like an Eiswein yet much brighter and, of course, not as sweet and concentrated. Tasted in June 2019 from a bottle that was opened five or six weeks prior.
