Bourgogne Rouge, Coquard Loison Fleurot
Note:
A lovely bright purple, with a stunning bouquet. I want to gulp this straight way. Really classy on the palate, with a precise crisp finish. A joyous wine showing that you can make fabulous pinot at higher yields (55 hl/ha in this case) now that the grapes ripen properly. Drink from 2025-2028. Tasted: December 2023. 5* Wine. Sometime ago I wrote that I thought the 2022 village Vosne from CLF was possibly the best village Vosne I had ever tasted. So I really dont know why it took me so long to open a bottle of 2022 Bourgogne Rouge (?) .Jasper has nailed it with his 5-Star rating. CLF clearly hit it (miles) out of the park with their 2022s. This is the best Bourgogne Rouge I have ever tasted. If it was served blind I might well have placed it as Roumier Chambolle. 13.5% alcohol.
Nice fullish ruby-purple but nothing untoward, not overly extracted. Lovely, highly aromatic nose for a Bourgogne Rouge .for any Burgundy in fact, featuring fresh cherry and mulberry, through to musky notes of liquorice, leather, game and woodsmoke. On the palate the first thing that comes across is the texture its velvety but bright and savoury. You cant say the fruit character is sweet because it is not, but it sits perfectly on that line of ripeness and freshness, but with a very opulent texture. It has lots of the inner-mouth aromatic qualities that great Burgundy gives you. The savoury combining with the floral and the fruit. Hawthorn, violet, bitter cherry, game, mocha. Cashmere smooth, lots of weight. I dont see why this wouldnt be a 20+ year wine. (Renaissance Vintners)
