Puligny Montrachet Bret Noyers, Fernand & Laurent Pillot

Note:

Slightly reserved initially, but once it opens out it has lovely, delicate aromatics.  A bit of pear, more than a hint of pineapple, a stoney aspect and some toasty fennel seed or cardamom, no doubt from nicely integrated oak.  Personally, I want Puligny Montrachet to dance over my palate, but I don’t want it to screech.  This does just that.  Fresh, zippy, sure, but with texture, creaminess. Really complex fruit tip-toes across the palate.  Is that pear ?  Or peach ?  Surely that is wild strawberry as it fills out in the mouth ?  Yuzu ?  Lime ?  All of them ? Then it comes back with a lovely sour dried lime-peel finish. Layered. Even a little bit structural.  Of course it’s not the ‘biggest’ or ‘heaviest wine’, but it’s a very romantic, elegant one.  Happiness.  You could easily keep it for 5 or 10 years, if you wanted to, courtesy of the Diam 10 closure.
