Saumur Champigny Le Bourg, Clos Rougeard
Note:
Opened alongside the 2019 Les Poyeux, this cuvée also shows a little reduction on the nose, although beneath this there are layers of tobacco, cigar, toast and dried black fruits, and it feels extremely typical of Le Bourg, which is noteworthy considering all the changes Clos Rougeard has undergone in the past decade, and the warm nature of the 2019 vintage. And this positive impression continues on the palate which is defined by its drive and energy, with a lithe and athletic stance, savoury fruits, lively acidity and powdery grip. This is a wow! wine, and to reinforce this strong initial impact it finishes with a huge length. Astonishing. The alcohol on the label is 13% / 99 points Chris Kissack the Winedoctor, at Clos Rougeard, France, Jun 2024
