Saumur Champigny Le Clos, Clos Rougeard
Note:
This is a blend representing about 15 distinct parcels scattered across the appellation, taking fruit from clay-limestone, clay-flint and more sandy terroirs. All the barrels used for the élevage here were old. I get spiced raspberry on the nose, with a touch of grilled meat and red pepper, the wines Cabernet DNA showing through. The palate feels full ad fresh, filled out with powdery tannins, a bed upon which rests spiced fruits and tobacco. Nicely composed, this has approachability, but will be better with some time in bottle. The alcohol on the label is 12.5% / 93 points
