Eitelsbacher Karthauserhofberg Riesling, No 54, TBA, Karthauserhof

Note:

Pear and pineapple in syrup and honey characterize the 2011 Eitelsbacher Karthauserhofberg Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese Nr. 54 (A.P. #19), whose additional prickle of lemon rind engenders nose-wrinkling but corresponds with only the merest hint of brightness, vivacity or citricity on this elixir’s viscous, creamy, buoyant and expansive palate. A yeasty, bread-like, faintly fungal aura of botrytis emerges to greater prominence as this takes on air, and it lingers with layered diversity if – as already suGrosses Gewachsested – without much dynamic, or primary juiciness. It should last through at least mid-century and quite possibly gain complexity and allure along the way. There were 100 liters of this – around twice the volume of any of the other Karthauserhof 2011 vintage T.B.A.s.
