Chambertin Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes, Perrot-Minot
Note:
This initially opens with just enough reduction to require some aggressive swirling to eventually reveal cool and softly spicy red berry fruit aromas that are liberally, even generously, laced with a wide range of floral elements. The spice extends to the palate of the rich, in fact almost suave, large-bodied flavors display a borderline aggressive minerality on the lush but refined finish that is seriously powerful and persistent if still youthfully austere. This is impressive because it possesses imposing size and weight yet the palate impression remains exquisitely well-balanced and surprisingly well-detailed given the richness. I would note that this isn`t so backward that it couldn`t be enjoyed now but with that said, another 5 to 8 years of keeping should prove beneficial.
