2006 Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Rosé
All about pleasure..
We tasted this in the office yesterday. We are a pretty hard bunch to please and this bottle made our day.
In terms of upfront pleasure, which is surely what wine is all about, this is a very hard wine to beat.
2006 Comtes de Champagne Rosé is 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, all from grand cru vineyards. The delightful colour – a wild salmon pink with a touch of copper – comes from 12% red wine from the vineyards of Bouzy.
At almost ten years old, this is a Champagne that is spot on right now. It will keep if you want it to but the pleasure that it give now is disarming. Champagnes at this level often need a little coaxing out of the glass but the 2006 Comtes de Champagne Rosé is jumping out of the glass from the moment you pour it.
At £530 per case of six in bond (please contact us to discuss pricing for multiple cases), it’s about half the price of 2004 Dom Pérignon Rosé and will give just as much, if not more, pleasure. This will make a brilliant wine for the summer.
Please do contact us if this appeals. The wine is coming direct from the property and will arrive in the UK in approximately four weeks.
2006 Taittinger, Comtes de Champagne Rosé
“Deepish wild salmon orange-pink, with exuberant scents of citrus peel, red currant, strawberry and watermelon. Full bodied, with vibrant tangerine fruit leading to red cherry and strawberry. Flashy and extrovert, becoming progressively more fleshy with peach and a touch of mocha, this voluptuous beauty finishes with a vivaciously fresh hit of citrus and pineapple sherbet. A kaleidoscope of fruit flavours; absolutely gorgeous already. 96 points” Renaissance Vintners
“Taittinger’s 2006 Comtes de Champagne Rosé has come along nicely over the last six months. Intensely perfumed, Pinot-inflected aromatics carry through the mid-palate and finish as the 2006 shows off its depth and pure energy. Veins of chalky minerality give the red berry and cranberry flavors an extra kick of energy. The 2006 is both powerful and delicate at the same, with crystalline precision and fabulous depth. Hints of orange peel, mint, cinnamon and cranberry add further shades of nuance on the complete, beautifully articulated finish. 95 points.” Antonio Galloni
